Annoucing a New Arrivial

On December 27th a beautiful new addition to the Smith family was born! Presley Lane Smtih was born Saturday December 27th at 7:38am. Funny, it wasn't so long ago that Sophie was born but somehow it doesn't seem possible for her to have ever been that small. Anyway, Presley couldn't have been more perfect, and mom is doing great too! Josh and I are so excited to know that Torrey and Bethany are about to experience the same joy that we have with our own little girl.

Hard to believe its been a year already

Sophie had her first birthday January 3rd. She's walking and running around the house and into EVERYTHING. We're debating on weather to tie her up or not. Ha! Its so fun to watch her grow and learn everyday. She really starting to associated words (sounds) with certain things now like, Mommy, Daddy, Ruby, ball, and some others.

She also had her first real fall two nights ago when she was climbing on her new bunk bed (won't get used for another year but we've got it set up anyway), the lower bunk, and reached for the shelf next to it and before Malia or I could get to her she went head first into the quite solid shelf and bounced back onto the mattress. Have to admit, kinda funny to watch since she really didn't get hurt. She was left w/ a tiny knot and scratch between her eyes. Kinda looks like she has a tiny uni-brow now. We were very proud of her though, she recovered in under 2 minutes and went right back to playing w/ her toys, puzzles and reading through her books she got for her birthday.

We had a great Christmas. Sophie really had a great time. We got all of our Christmas stuff put up yesterday and are moving on to the next party. Sophie's 1st Bday is on Saturday 1/3. We must already be in "nesting" mode b/c we did some major spring cleaning in the house yesterday. Both Malia and I fought colds over Christmas but had fun celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ w/ our friends and family.
A couple more bits of great news, Torrey and Bethany Smith celebrated the birth of their first child. A baby girl, Pressley Lane, on 12/27. Another Christmas miracle... The other bit of news was for us and on Christmas Eve morning we found out that we're having a little BOY!!!!
I hate to not have a picture w/ this post. Looks a little bare. But the temporary phone I'm using has no camera and the one I did have, flew off the car at 40mph last week. Hope everyone has a great new year!!!!

Rough Night

I want to start this post off by saying I have the most wonderful dedicated wife on this planet. She is the ultimate mom! Sophie was a bit of a booger last night, getting up several times for semi-long periods during the night. Then finally waking up for her day around 615am, about an hour or more earlier than normal. This was not good for our sleep. But this is what you do as a parent I'm told. I took over Sophie duties from about 630 until we left for work. But not before sneaking in a cat nap w/ her for about 30 mins on the couch. There's something about taking a nap w/ your child by your side that just makes your world feel so...calm. Today was Sophie's first snow for the year. If you can really call it that. Barely a dusting. I can't wait to take her for a sleigh ride. I was hoping to get a shot of the house w/ some snow last night. Didn't really turn out. Hopin to get a better one this afternoon. We'll see. I guess at least you get a taste of our house decked out in Christmas Spirit! I put lights up for about a week when 2 strands kept blowing out. And we decided, no more lights! So we went to Lowe's for some landscape lights for year round enjoyment and Malia found some wreaths for the windows. Problem solved.

Minor Dog Trauma-Drama

Here's a little story we'd like to tell you about our minor dog drama this wknd. It was a first for me and with the many dogs I grew up w/ on our farm, that's saying a lot. But here's the skinny. Ruby and I were playing ball on Saturday in the backyard. Quite cold out. When we stopped playing ball I went about my business but she was laying in the yard, nothing rare there, but noticed she was licking her paw. So I figured maybe she got something stuck in her pad. Nope! Her dewclaw (click here if you don't know) had broken in 1/2.

The worst part though is that the quick was exposed and the bottom 1/2 hadn't quite come off all the way; this means a nerve is exposed and quite tender. I called our vet and she said as long as she doesn't seem really bothered by it I could either try to pull it off or Ruby may get it off on her own. I couldn't quite get a handle on it to remove it (Even w/ Jeff Komlos as my surgical assistant).

So I bandaged it w/, YES a maxi pad and athletic tape. HA! I changed the bandage a few times and kept it clean for about a day and a half. and when I took the 3rd wrap off I kept it off and let her outside for about 10 mins and VOILA! She got it off.

She's still bandaged but doing well. I just couldn't believe in all the years w/ all the dogs, I'd never see that before or at least maybe they got it off on their own before I saw it anyway. But Ruby's doing well. Here she is in our recovery unit (our couch!).

Two Santas!? What!?

Sophie went to see Santa again on Saturday at the local library. It was a little too cold for the Shelbyville Christmas Parade so we went to see Santa up close instead. We got a little snow over the wknd but not enough for fun yet. We spend pretty much the entire wknd indoors watching movies, a little football, and watch UK get embarassed on the court once again! Patience right?

We've had quite a bit of rain and a little snow over the past few days. Seems like the ground is never gonna dry out. We got to sit in a little rain in cold weather for a little while when we made the trip to Knoxville, TN to watch UK get whooped once again by UT. 24 straight years! That orange gets uglier and uglier every year.

Regardless, we had a great time w/ Bo and Jamirae. They're new house is really coming together and looks great!

This wknd we're having our first official-unofficial UK basketball game party when we play Miami Hurricanes. We've looked a little shaky and inconsistent to this point but we were able to put together a few games to win a little tourney last wknd. Jodie Meeks was name SEC player of the wk. He averaged 31 pts per game, although from a UK fan standpoint, he needs to give the ball up a little more often. TURNOVERS are killin us! Watch the CATS tonight as they take on Lamar. Yep one dude. They say he's really good though.

On our usual stop at the Pilot gas station just off the Corbin exit on our way to Middlesboro, we ran into an interesting character. I at least had to take a picture of this car. But when I got out of the car to do so, I met a CRAZY man. We felt kinda bad for that guy though, seemed like he was a nice guy, just a little "off" these days. He gave me a card w/ his website on it and told me I should turn our car into an "Art Car". No thanks! But yours is nice Sir. Here's his site if you wanna check it out. Great to have a coach thats so involved w/ the community and engrained in the program. Definitely feels right.
On a related note: A few weeks back, Josh's dad, stepmother (Ann), and Lee were killing some time before a football game in Lexington. They decided to see if UK's Bball practice gym was open. It was, so they took a little self guided tour and when they started down the hallway of the Bball offices, Coach Gillispie turned the corner carrying some Subway sandwiches, heading right toward them. They thought to themselves, well thats the end of the tour. Not at all the case. He invited them into his office. They sat down and talked about how happy they were to have the excitement back in the program and how excited he was to be there. He even signed a couple things for Lee. Also, a few months back he posed for pictures while he was out to eat w/ some friends of ours. Seems like a stand up gentleman. I don't EVER recall seeing Tubby out and about around campus nor at the local Kroger!

Today is Veteran's Day. We watched a little bit of Clint Eastwood's Flags of our Father's last night as we were laying in bed. If you haven't watched it, you should. Quite graphic but we figure if they saw it, we can too. A great reminder of why we should be greatful of for what we have.

Make it a point pray for our soldiers and to thank a veteran or active member when you see them. If not today, any day will do.

Thank you to all the men and women who have served this great country and to those who are currently fighting for our freedoms.

This is about all we can do. HOPE. We truly hope that Obama makes tremendous strides in our goverment w/o breaking down certain groups of our population to benefit those looking for a hand out. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for helping those in need, but there is no good to come from keeping a person down. Give them a reason to grow. Hopefully he'll do progressive things with energy and foreign policy. Hopefully he'll surround himself w/ people to provide good advice. Hopefully he'll heed that advice. Hopefully he'll be humble enough to change course if an outcome doesn't go the intended direction. Hopefully our general public will reverse course from its downturning values. We can all make changes of our own to mold the future. So, don't JUST hope, JUST DO IT (no corniness intended).

And I have to say, when you have a child of your own and you think of yourself in this situation; I would have to give the selfish answer and say, "No way". This reminds me to THANK God everyday and not get caught up in the "favors" we ask of Him.

What's New

This past wknd we made a trip to Middlesboro, KY to celebrate the marriage of two of our dearest friends, Bo and Jamirae Green. The weekend was great! Josh made it thru the Best Man's toast w/ just a few tears. A crybaby by his own admission. The Green's are definitely a part of our family and we wish them nothing but grace and happiness in their marriage. Friday will be Sophie's 1st Halloween. We'll have pics of that posted for sure.

We went over to the Smith's house to watch "IRON MAN" with them the other night, along w/ the Hardin's and the Komlos's. Great movie by the way!

Last night we had a trial run w/ two kids when we watched Celia Hardin for a few hours. We think we're gonna have to tie Sophie up. Man, she's mobile. No, it went great. Celia was very easy to take care of. Sophie was very curious about baby, but played well. We can't wait for the more excitement in the Hurst house. It'll be great!

Sophie seems to have taken a liking to dog food at an early age. No matter how many times we tell her no or pull her away from Ruby's food, she always finds a way to get in there? I mean, a dogs gotta eat!

Here Sophie take a snooze w/ Papaw (Malia's grandpa) They're inseperable when they're together. A few days ago, they were keeping Sophie and he went upstairs. Sophie followed him all the way up the entire flight of stairs (Mamaw follwed behind of course). Up to this point, she really hadn't even figured out how to climb one step, let alone the entire flight. But, I guess nothing will keep her away from her Papaw.

Lil' Peanut

I guess he/she looks a little more like a cashew right now though. As many of you know, we're expecting again! For those of you that we haven't reached yet...We're expecting again! He/She is approximately 9 weeks and 1 day old. This gives us a due date of May 5th, 2009. So we might be looking at a Derby baby so I doubt we'll be having a Derby party this year and may/not be attending one. Sophie and Ruby are pretty excited, but I think they're hoping for another girl so Daddy will be majorly outnumbered. We'll keep you posted as time moves along. Thank you in advance for your prayers for Malia and Baby.

Sup?...Not Much

Well, things are starting to settle down now a little since the storm. We've been tryin to take things easy this week. The weather in the p.m. has been great. We actually made it more than 100 yds from the house for a walk w/ Sophie the other night. She hasn't been very cooperative on that lately but we're workin on that. This weekend we'll be a little busy w/ the Bluegrass Balloon Festival here in Louisville. Its not the best race but the view is great. Usually about 70+ balloons but in the past its been very poorly run and not very competitive, we've been told things are different now...we'll see. And since Ruby hasn't made an appearance on the blog lately, here's a recent pic of her getting all excited for a car ride. Ruby and Sophie have thankfully gotten along since day 1 but now they're really bonding now that Sophie is more and more mobile every day. Sophie is figure out how to climb all over Ruby. She's been a very good dog, gettin a lick in every chance she gets.

Bo and I went to the Ryder Cup on Sunday. Wow! The atmosphere was unbelievable. What an event to see live. Cheering on your country to victory, there's nothing like it. We were fortunate enough to land some tickets through my dad. (Thanks Dad!) These weren't just any ticket though. We were in the Worchester Village which sits off of 17 green. But in this tent we were treated to a hot breakfast that morning, a nice lunch at mid-day, and drinks were on the house. We didn't spend too much time in the tents though because we followed the players. Anthony Kim was spectacular! The shots these players are able to hit under such enormous pressure is unbelievable. The excitement the crowd had for JB Holmes and Kenny Perry (both of KY) was great. It seems as though KY has an adopted son in Boo Weekley who is from the Redneck portion of Florida. What we've been up to

Since the remnants of Hurricane Ike came through on Sunday we've had some free time on our hands since our office has been w/out power since then. Our house thankfully weathered the storm quite well. We had a little impromptu get together on Sunday since some of our friends and family were w/out power for several hours and our house somehow was the only one in the area that kept it goin. Below are the pictures we've been promising for quite some time now. They're mostly in chronological order from most recent.

Late August and Early September has brought some wild weather. First heavy rain where we avoided disaster thanks to a little help from Josh's mom and dad to clear out the water from the lot. Then on 9/13 we survived 75 mph winds left over from Hurricane Ike.

8/31/08 Pawpaw (Josh's grandpa) puttin on a show for the residents of Crestview. He played some of his favorite tunes from the "Good Ol' Days" and told some stories. He really enjoyed it and so did the residents. Looks a little like Walter Mathau w/ the colored hair don't ya think?

Josh and some friends celebrated the Bachelor life of Bo Green this past weekend. Quite a time was had by all. The first group had already teed off by the time it was realized a photo opp was necessary. Oh well, better late than never I guess. There were actually 13 playing golf the groups posted scores of 10, 9, and 8 under. So, not bad on the pairings. Unforunately the groom (Bo) and the best men (Josh and Matt) took 2nd place.

Sorry we haven't been keeping you posted. This time of year is so hectic for us. Evenings and weekends are jam packed so we haven't had time to offload our most recent pictures. We'll try to get some out ASAP so all you outta-towners and see Sophie grow.

Next week Louisville will host the PGA's Ryder Cup. This should be very exciting to watch from home or from the course. Preliminary negotiations are pointing toward the above pictured being representatives for the next Ryder Cup.

Been A Long While

Sorry to all you regulars (if there are any remaining). Its been quite a while since we've updated here. We've since moved and are getting things quite settled now. I'm hoping to maybe get some new pics up this wknd w/ having a long one w/ Labor Day. We've also got the UK vs UL game this Sunday. GO CATS!!!! Ady started soccer this year. She seemed to really enjoy it. Sophie tried to cheer from the sidelines but her pacifier made her inaudible. We finally talked her into spittin' the paci out.

We'll try to get some video of Sophie crawling around and pulling herself up on the site soon. Now that she's pulling herself up on things, she's also smackin her little head on stuff all the time now too...'at'll teach 'er. It's amazing how fast things change. Seems like she went from not knowing how to crawl at all to moving from one corner of the house to the other in a blink of an eye.

Just over the past couple of days, Ruby seems to really be getting used to Sophie touching and tugging on her. Last night Sophie was playing w/ Ruby's tail and she really just took it in stride. We're so proud of both of them. They're really fun to watch.

Headless Runnin' Chickens

We've been running around like some chickens w/ our heads cut off lately. Went to Canton, OH for a balloon race this past wknd. Had a lot of fun but quite exhausting. Haven't had time to load some of the pics from there. This wknd we're going to Norris Lake for a "Stock the Bar" party for Bo and Jrae who are getting married Oct 25th. Then, every wknd from Aug 9th on thru the end of September, we're either going to be selling corn or ballooning or both. The corn selling has gotten quite addictive...the money makin' that is. We had a GREAT weekend! Our family is so fortunate and blessed to have supportive friends and family that are at our side in our commitment to Jesus Christ. He blesses us and all those close to us in so many ways.

Dave Stone gave a great sermon on Sunday. Telling us to open our hearts and minds to accept the TRUTH of Jesus Christ and stay committed in our faith and the things we do everyday should be representative of the commitment. Sophie has been such a blessing in our lives. A changed perspective is a huge understatement!
Trust in the Lord and the knowledge that He has.

Sophie had her first date last night. We went over to Jeff and Lori's last night for game night. Played a little "Mad Gab". Guys vs. Girls, of course! Guys won by quite a margin. Gettin' In Some Lake Time

We took a little trip down to Nolin River Lake where Malia's parents have a lake house. Spent our Saturday down at the dock mostly. Took a little nap during the mid-day, Sophie gives us a good excuse for that! Ruby loves a good nap too. The water was great, which was really nice considering it was about 95F and the humidity was near 70%. Sophie spent some time in her pool splashin' around and Ruby FINALLY learned to dive in off the dock. She LOVES the water but was always too much of chicken to dive in. Sophie absolutely loves playing in the water, we can't wait for her to start taking some swim lessons so she can join us in the lake.

Sunday we woke up w/ the sun and headed back to Louisville for church and to see Kami (Malia's sister) and Randi (Malia's aunt) be baptized. What a special thing to see. They had great support from our family and our closest of friends were there to celebrate as well.

We spent the rest of our Sunday getting yet another nap in and then heading to Randi's for a quick dip in the pool. After that we hung out w/ The Smith, The Komlos, and The Hardin Families for dinner and hung out on the patio.

Queen Ruby & Her Flowers

We love our dog! She has to be the most tolerant dog on earth. We know...she looks humiliated but at least she lets us play w/ her. Sophie is really starting to notice Ruby more. Everytime Ruby comes near her eyes follow her and she smiles at her. Soph also enjoys petting her too. Ruby definately gets her licks in and Sophie loves that!

As promised, her are some pics of Malia's landscaping. We decided to go w/ ivy in front of the house now. Since Ruby tramples our flowers in certain places where she walks out to the grass... hopefully this will stay in tact. The "mound" is now covered in flora. Enjoy the beauty!

This wknd was pretty relaxing for us. Malia and Sophie stayed w/ her Mamaw on her fathers side over the weekend. They also went to a Lexington Legends game w/ Kami and Ali (Malia's sister and dog). On Saturday Josh helped a friend, Jeff work on some things for his project car then went to a party for some friends 12th Wedding Anniversary that evening. Sunday was pretty relaxing, went to church and then spent most of the later part of the day outside and to wrap up the evening, Josh read a little Know-It-All and Malia worked on Sophie's baby book. We had to do a little catchin up on that, as having a baby takes up most of your time to work on things like that.

Flight Night

We took advantage of the beautiful weather last night and took to the sky. Pawpaw Hurst, Josh and Lee took a short flight from Long Run Park to just off Flat Rock Road/Aiken Road while the ladies chased. Above is our flight path and Sophie checkin' things out. Most kids under 3 or 4 are usually terrified once the burners are going, but she seemed unphased.

We pray for those who have served our country and for those who are currently serving. We truly appreciate all that you have done and continue to do.

We had a great Memorial Weekend. Glad we didn't have to go back to work right off vacation...and we have a short week to come back to. Can't wait for the wknd already. On Sunday Josh, Bo, and Torrey went to The Indianapolis 500. The weather was beautiful and the race was exciting. Danica got wrecked in the pits toward the end of the race. It happened right in front of us! She climbed out of her car and started walking to that guys pit to pick a fight but an official stopped her before she could.

Malia spent some time planting flowers and ivy around the house this weekend. It looks beautiful. We'll post some pics a little later. Sophie is getting close to sitting up on her own. We think just a few more weeks and she'll be there. It was good to be able to spend some family time on Monday just hanging out together.

We'll have some video from the 500 and some other pics to follow in the next day or two.

We took a trip over to Savannah, GA today for the afternoon. Much bigger than we expected. Lots and lots of shops, tours, and restaurants. We just sort of wandered around to look at the old buildings, town squares, and riverfront. Quite lovely. Sophie has now made it thru 6 states (including KY) in just 4 days! Pictured above is a pic of Paula Deen's restaurant. Didn't eat there, they were booked for lunch. The other is of Sophie trying out a lime. For the first time she also rolled from her back to her stomach this afternoon with no assistance. We've enjoyed our time here but we'll be heading back tomorrow morning. Can't wait to see everyone soon!

The weather was perfect for Sophie on the beach tonight. Saw her first jelly fish. Which is more white? Josh's foot or the jelly fish. Good grief! Tried a little boogie boarding. Josh tried to boogie board...boogies in the ocean about as graceful as he boogies on land! Malia enjoyed some sand time w/ Soph. Seemed like she liked the taste. Yeah we've started her on solids now. We're gonna freshen up and head to dinner somewhere close by. Tomorrow we're hoping for a nice evening to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary. We're so glad to be celebrating as a family.

We're planning on going to Savannah, GA either tomorrow or Wednesday. So, we'll probably send more pics then.

Sea Pines & Harbor Town

We took a little excursion to the "toe" of the island, over to Sea Pines and Harbor Town. Woo! Quite the hi-brow establishment. Very pretty. Well, we arrived in HH around 1:30pm on Sunday. Pretty windy the first day so beach time wasn't very practical. We went out to eat at Steamer's which is actually owned by a W. KY Univ. Grad. Food was great, pasta w/ shrimp. Appetizers were really tasty! Shrimp and Crawfish! The pictures above: driving thru the beautiful mountains of E. Tenn. then crossing the bridge onto HH Island. Not that kinda baby rally! Go Sophie Go!

This weekend was a great one for us. First Mother's Day was a great one. Sophie has started learning how to laugh, more of a chuckle right now but oh so funny! Mommy had breakfast made for her and got a little break from her normal daily routine as Dad did his best to fill in. Tonight we'll be getting together w/ some friends for a tradition that our group of friends started just before Sophie was born. We call it a "Baby Rally". Our friends Ben and Melinda Hardin are expecting their first child in just about a month. "The Baby Hardin Rally" entails friends just getting together to hang out and see what's new but more importantly to get everyone together for a prayer session to think about Mom and Baby.

We'll be counting days like we're in jail cell as we move closer to vacation time. We will be leaving Saturday afternoon to stay the night in Middlesboro w/ Bo and J'rae to knock out the first 3 hrs of the drive and then we should have about 5+ left to go on Sunday a.m. to Hilton Head. We're so excited to get to relax and take Sophie on her first vacation.

We'll try to keep the blog going while we're on vacation w/ pictures of what we did that day. So, check in w/ us.

We have Sophie at work this morning w/ us because we have a rehearsal dinner to attend this evening after work. So, we decided to bring her w/ us today. Sorry for our absence but busy Spring schedules are keeping us quite active.

Some notes from this past wknd:

Bitter sweet Derby Day w/ the win for Big Brown, but the unfortunate ankle breaks and eventual euthinization of Eight Belles. I really hope for the sake of the sport that there's no ill findings of steroids, etc... But I can't help but think that the chatter of the domineering size of Big Brown is much like that of the days of Secretariat.

This weekend we'll be celebrating several things. First and most importantly in my eyes is Malia's 1st Mother's Day. I probably don't tell her enough, but she's such a wonderful mom and makes my life easy, not only as a great wife but also as an outstanding mother to Sophie. It's a beautiful thing to have such a wonderful person by my side. (Who needs a Kleenex?)

Secondly and Thirdly, my stepsister Emily will be graduating from Bellarmine on Saturday and Malia's friend from high school, Allison Vinson, soon to be Allison Johnson is getting married on Saturday evening. Congrats in advance to both!

May 17th we're taking our 1st "Official" Family Vacation to Hilton Head, SC. We were hoping to take Ruby w/ us so she could enjoy the ocean but pups aren't allowed after February. Oh well, better luck next time. Sophie's says she's looking forward to gettin in some quality tummy time on her boogie board and Mom and Dad are lookin' forward to getting a little R/R in. Since we didn't take a vacation last year so we could finish paying for rounds at Two Keys Tavern we're well overdue. All we can do is hope for good weather now.

This past wknd was a fun but busy one for us. Bo and Jamirae came to Louisville for the mini-marathon that is a party of the KY Derby festivities. They finished inside their goal times, so CONGRATULATIONS! It was also a nice change of pace to have them w/ us for the KY Derby Balloon Race. We were in the top 5 out of about 50 in the Thursday evening race but didn't place in the Saturday evening race but had a great time. We also got another big surprise from some other friends but we'll keep you posted on that!

As most of you know, I (Josh) have a bit of a weight fluctuation problem, I've been inspired by the hardwork and fun that I saw Jrae and Bo have in training for the Mini. So, Malia and I have decided to embark upon a smaller version for right now. Yesterday we started on our training with a goal to run a 5k in June. Hopefully this one will stick and I can slim down and keep it that way. Maybe a 13 miler will come down the road.

Hopefully we'll be close the target this weekend too. This pic was from Canton, OH at the NFL Hall of Fame Balloon race. We came in from maybe 2 or 3000 ft just outside the road you see to make a move on the target here. It'll definately get the adrenaline pumping whether you're on the ground or in the air.

Our balloon is the one in the middle. The Spine Center Chiropractic is the banner on teh balloon. Look for us if you come out for any of the events.
(We will be flying Thursday @ EP Sawyer Park in the late afternoon but helping a different balloon at the Thursday Night Glimmer on the river. We'll be at every event thereafter.)

Thursday kicks off the big Derby Balloon Race weekend. This is always a fun time for getting together w/ our balloon family. Sophie will make her big debut to many of our ballooning friends that haven't seen her yet. This will also be her first balloon event altogether. Weather is always an issue for this weekend. Seems like there's only been one year in about 15 that things have gone off w/o a hitch. This year they've added even more events which I guess helps the probability that at least one or more get off the ground. Right now Thurs. pm, Fri. am, Sun. am/pm look like the best chances to get anything off at all.

I was just emailing a good friend of ours that has a little boy on they way in just a few months. I was telling him to enjoy these next few months of the pregnancy. Not because life is going to drastically change and you're never going to have a life again. Aside: I hate when people tell you things like that when they know you have a baby on the way. Mostly joking, I know, but there's nothing like it. Anyway, I went on to tell him, "you'll reach a whole new level of enjoyment when he's born." I'm sayin! I was sitting on the couch last night w/ Sophie and she kept spitting her pacifier out and I said, "One more time and...." she then threw the biggest smile at me and I absolutely melted. It might take 'em a year to walk but it only took a day for her to figure out how to wrap me around her little finger.

I saw today that there might be a question of whether Derrick Jasper stays for next season or not. Part of me would hate to see him go b/c you'd hope he'd be able to step up as a leader next year. But, he played so little last year and I can't say we missed him going by how well he played when he was suited up. I mean dang, he looked like he'd never played in a competitive game of basketball before in our last game against UGA. I'd like to seem him stay b/c he seems like a good kid but I hate to see a scholarship go to waste too.

Our Growing Girl!

It's hard to believe...she's already 15 weeks old almost 4 months. She is really developing her own personality at this point. She smiles all the time, and every time at my moms friend Buddy(there's something about him she really likes). The first thing she does every morning is smile at Josh and I, it melts my heart. She spent all last week with Nonna (Josh's mom) and we think she might have been a little spoiled. She now wants to have 110% of your attention, which I know she got with Nonna.
In May Josh, Sophie and I are taking our first family vacation. We are headed to Hilton Head and Sophie will put her feet in the sand for the first time (and probably in her mouth too). We are sorry to say that we will have to leave Ruby behind, they won't allow pets...dang. Speaking of pets Ruby is loving her baby sister Sophie and occasionally sneaks in a kiss on her chubby cheaks.
Anyway...what a blessing she is! We love being parents! What did we ever do before she was in our lives?

It took me a few minutes to figure out how to get a picture up here to look at but now I know. Last night was the Season Opener for my absolute favorite show on TV, "Deadliest Catch". If you haven't seen it you need to. Sophie enjoys all the action going on and Malia seems to like it about as much as she can like any show that's MY favorite. It is amazing to me that these guys will work 40 and sometimes up to 70 hrs straight w/ little to no sleep. The conditions are ridiculous with 20 to 30 ft waves, air so cold that the boat becomes encrusted in ice 4, 5, 6 inches thick. The money that each deckhand brings in for a few weeks work can be as much as $30k...not a bad day of fishin'! I'm gonna try to figure out at some point how to add links to my favorite sites and interests, etc... Wish me luck! Well, this afternoon was a little slow at the office so Malia and I decided to start a blog. We don't really know what to do w/ a blog but it seems like everyone has one these days. We will try to post interesting news we come across and family updates etc. You will probably find anything from family, sports, church, friends, work, etc... So, I guess this means my random updates about whats going on in our lives is now over. So, tune in for more later.
